Obituary of Vicki Aguilar

Please share a memory of Vicki to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Violetta ‘Vicki’ Alma Wienke Aguilar of Ben Lomond passed away at home, eleven days shy of her 95th birthday. This charming, feisty, elegant lady will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Vicki was born in Manila, one of seven children. Her family moved to San Francisco prior to the outbreak of WWII. Shortly after the beginning of the war, Vicki’s mother was deported back to the Philippines, along with Vicki and her six siblings. Initially they were sent to a prisoner of war camp in Manila, then transferred to Los Banos, where they were bravely rescued in 1945. The entire Wienke family was once again united in San Francisco to start their new lives. From these extraordinary early life circumstances, Vicki developed the optimism, courage and resilience she demonstrated throughout her long life. She became a young bride and a working mother of two, then a working grandmother. Vicki cherished her family and adored her granddaughters and great-grandchildren. Upon retirement, she and her husband John vacationed in Arizona & Nevada and explored the world on cruises, while remaining actively involved in the kids’ lives and family gatherings. Both were devoted Catholics and parishioners at St. John’s. An avid dog lover, Vicki and her chihuahua, Princess, were inseparable for 16 years. Then Foxy, a cute tiny adoptee, assumed the comforting role of canine companion. Vicki is survived by two daughters, Donna Curto of Boulder Creek & Linda Langford of Bastrop, TX; four granddaughters, Heidi Curto, of Ben Lomond, Wendy Zenone of Reno, NV, Amy Leyack of Paige, TX, and Trudy Curto of Brentwood, CA; five great-grandchildren, Cameron, Charlotte, Sebastian, Cassian and Lux, ages 1-21, in California & Texas; her beloved sister, Teresa ‘Tess’ Schlaich, of Richmond, CA, and two brothers, Carl Wienke of Upper Lake, CA, and Fred Wienke of Citrus Heights, CA. Vicki is preceded in death by her loving husband John Aguilar, her parents and three siblings. The family wishes to express gratitude to Vicki’s dedicated caregivers at Gentle Touch Home Care, St. John’s Eucharistic Ministry for homebound parishioners, Hospice of Santa Cruz, and Peace of Mind Dog Rescue in Pacific Grove, for ‘Foxy.’ A memorial service will be held for Vicki at St John’s Catholic Church, in Felton, at 120 Russell Ave, at the corner of Hwy 9, on Friday, March 22, 2024 at 11:00am.
